Here are some factors we considered:
  1. Health Disparities: Women of color often experience significant health disparities, including higher rates of chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and obesity. Limited access to healthcare, unequal treatment in the healthcare system, and environmental factors contribute to these disparities.
  2. Maternal Mortality: Black women in the U.S. face a maternal mortality rate that is three to four times higher than that of white women. This is often due to disparities in maternal healthcare, including inadequate prenatal care and racial bias in medical treatment.
  3. Mental Health: Women of color may be at a higher risk for mental health issues due to factors such as discrimination, socioeconomic stressors, and limited access to mental healthcare. Stigma surrounding mental health in some communities can also hinder seeking help.
  4. Economic Inequality: Women of color are more likely to experience economic disparities, including lower wages, limited job opportunities, and higher rates of poverty. This can lead to financial insecurity and limited access to quality education and housing.
  5. Violence Against Women: Women of color, particularly Black and Indigenous women, are disproportionately affected by intimate partner violence, sexual assault, and homicide. Inadequate support systems and systemic racism can exacerbate these issues.
